It was my second night-time crappie ice fishing trip of the season and I was hoping I would be more successful than the first. I was sadly disappointed. It was not only worse, but it was horrible. I never had a bite in the two and one half hours I fished. I had some fish come up and investigate the struggling minnow I had secured to a hook on the end of my line, but none would commit.

Observations:

The temperatures have been very warm the past couple of days and we also had some rain last night. These conditions resulted in lots of water pooling on top of the ice, in fact some areas had a couple of inches of water on the ice.
Tonight the barometer was taking a nose dive on account of a fairly strong approaching storm front. Most people would believe this would send the fish into a feeding frenzy, but it did not. From my past experiences I have found just the opposite effect from a rapidly dropping barometer.
On a season wide and general note, the Atomic Ice Fishing Derby was this past weekend and just as last year, more vehicles were lost to the icy waters of the lake.
