6-27-18 pool 7 bass fishing

6-27-18 545pm-920pm
Where/What: Mississippi R. pool 7 bass fishing with Scott
Weather: (1853) 82º, NW3, clear 29.84 steady
H20: 76º, clear, 11.84 falling, 121kcfs
Caught: Me: 5 LMB, 1 pike and 1 dogfish. Scott: 1 LMB and 1 pike

Observations: The water is right at flood stage but it has started to drop. The clarity of the water is exceptional for the highness of it. Even with the high water most of the emergent aquatic vegetation is still above the water line.

Our after work bass fishing excursion was a success. The temperature felt really hot to me tonight, but other than that it was a gorgeous night. The fish were very scattered and hard to find, but we were able to get a few nice ones. Even though the fish were scattered they were very aggressive once we found them. I used every bait I had pre rigged on my rod and reel combos and I caught fish on the four different set ups.

6-24-18 Potter's Flowage

6-24-18 11am-830pm
Where/What: Potters Flowage, monroe county. bass/muskie fishing
Weather: calm, sunny most of the day, 82º
H20: ?º, stain typical tannic color, high
Caught: 10 LMB only one of which was legal

Observations: Everything looks pretty normal here for this time of year, except there are areas on the lake which have current which I had never noticed before. There is also a pretty good amount of water going out the outflow tube. And of course there are a gazillion silver dollar size pads almost everywhere.

It was a tough day of fishing here today. The action was pathetic and the size of the fish also was. I think all the small bass I caught were males that were guarding nests. The last hour of daylight I tried a little muskie fishing, but I had no action from that species. On the plus side the scenery is always great. The deer were plentiful and I saw many of them in the water along the shoreline eating aquatic vegetation.

6-20-18 bass fishing

6-20-18 550pm-810pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 7 bass fishing
Weather: (1853) E6, overcast, 73º 29.83 falling
H20: ?º, 8.51 rising, 73.7 kfs, dirty with lots of floating weeds
Caught: 1 LMB and 1 pike

Observations: The water is rising quickly and it is very muddy with lots of floating weeds present. The emergent aquatic plants are starting to bloom.

It was a solo trip after work tonight. the first hour for me was a bust. I concentrated on the channel area behind the house, but it was very muddy and I had no action what so ever. I almost gave up, but I thought if I found some cleaner water I may have a chance at catching some fish. I did find some better water to the north and with that clear water I did find a small group of fish. I hate to say it but I actually caught both fish on a Ribbit buzzing frog. I also slowed down and did some punching. Once again I had about four good bites using that technique, but I was not able to hook up on any fish.

6-18-18

6-18-18 6pm-915pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 7 bass fishing with Scott
Weather: (1853) N7, light rain, 78º 29.93 rising
H20: ?º, 7.81 rising, 67.1 kfs, dingy
Caught: Me: not a thing. Scott: 1 LMB, 1SMB, 1 pike and 1 dog fish

Observations: The water is quite dingy and it is going to get very dirty and nasty within the next couple of days.

It was a week night bass fishing outing with Scott. The fishing was poor, especially for me. I never caught a fish. I did have about four good bites punching, but I was not able to hook the fish. It is defiantly a good technique, I just need to learn how to hook the fish.
Scott fared a little better. I just was not into fishing tonight. Of course Scott had to fish the hell out of the frog in weedy areas. frog fishing is o’k, but it can be very unproductive if the fish are not active.

6-16-18 bass tournament

6-16-18 630am-3pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 5a bass tournament
Weather: (1253) SE9, clear, 87º 29.84 steady
H20: 73º, 653.28 rising, 52 kfs, mostly dingy
Caught: Me: two legal LMB’s, numerous pike with one measuring 37 inches. Scott: 2 Legal SMB’s and numerous small LMB’s and numerous pike

Observations: Today was a scorcher on the water. The south wind and a water temperature of 73 degrees saved me. There is quite a bit of rice on this pool, but most of it is still flat on the water. I did not see any wild celery plants.

It was our first bass tournament of the year, and we took fourth. Sounds like an okay finish right, well there were only four boat and we got clobbered by the other three boats. The whole deal was a bust! I told Scott before the tournament that small mouth bass were going to be a major element of the bags, and they were.
We on the other hand stuck to the non-existent frog bite almost all day. which, caused our embarrassing finish. Finally in the last hour I had enough of fishing the frog and we went smallmouth fishing. In actuality I had enough and seen enough to have abandoned the frog bite after a couple of hours. You just cannot make a fish bite what it does not want to bite. Anyway the last hour we did catch a couple of small mouths with one legal one put in the boat.

6-14-18

6-14-18 6pm-9pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 7 bass fishing
Weather: (1853) S14, clear, 76º 29.93 falling
H20: ?º, 7.34 steady, 62 kfs, fairly clear
Caught: 3 LMB’s, 2 pike and one dog fish

Observations: The river is in good shape. It is a little dingy, but it is clearing up. The wild rice is starting to stand up.

In a way I was pre fishing for my upcoming fishing tournament on Saturday. I was wanting to try the sloughs, which i did but with limited success. I also was trying out some rod/reel bait combos to get a feel for them. The action was not fantastic, but the strong south winds limited the areas where I could effectively fish.

6-12-2018

6-12-18 615pm-9pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 7 bass fishing
Weather: (1853) S3, overcast, 77º 29.84 steady
H20: ?º, 7.24 falling, 62 kfs, dingy to clear
Caught: lots of pike and some nice LMB’s

Observations: The water on this pool is in pretty good shape; it is neither too high nor dirty. The emergent weeds are growing rapidly but they are not yet mature. The rice is still laying on the surface of the water, and it appears to be quite abundant.

I was out fun fishing but I was also concentrating on using and trying various baits and rod/reel combinations. I was basically pre fishing for an upcoming bass tourney I have on Saturday. The tourney is on a different pool, but fish haunts and techniques should be very similar. The fishing was very good tonight, especially the pike fishing. These fish were very aggressive. I lost a good number of baits to these toothy fish, but it was still fun.

6-10-18

6-10-18 730am-730pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 5a bass fishing with Scott
Weather: (1253) E8, overcast, 67º 29.93 falling
H20: 72º, 653.51 falling, 61 kfs, dingy
Caught: some bass, quite a few pike, a dogfish and a gar

Observations: The river up here was quite dirty, and the area was lacking any large expanses of weed growth. I did not notice any wild celery to amount to anything anywhere.

We were pre fishing for an upcoming bass tournament on Saturday. And let me tell you did we ever fish, a solid twelve hours worth. I can honestly say that we did not figure anything out. We caught some bass here and there, but nothing was significant or consistent. we could have caught a decent number of small mouths if we wanted to target them, but they were running fairly small. All the fish were relating to weeds, and especially areas with a large amount of weeds. The most consistent bait of the day was a plastic frog of some sort.

6-9-18 bass fishing

6-9-18 10am-12:00pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 7 bass fishing
Weather: (1053) SE8, clear, 73º 29.98 falling
H20: ?º, 7.15 falling, clear, 61 kcfs
Caught: 4 LMB one small pike

Observations: There is lots of rice springing up. None of it yet standing, but about 12-18 inches of the plant is laying on the surface.

I only got out for a couple of hours today. My original plan was to fish the channel behind my house, but after about twenty minutes of no bass I knew I had to fish other waters. I ended up fishing the slop out by the main channel and was able to boat a few bass. The action was not fast but there was enough that if i did not have other commitments I would have fished longer.

6-5-18 Cat Fishing

6-5-18 6:45pm-11:00pm
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 7 cat fishing with Scott
Weather: (2153) E5, clear, 72º 29.87 steady
H20: ?º, 7.24 falling, clear, 62 kcfs
Caught: Bait - bluegills and perch, Scott caught a 10 pound flat head

Observations: The aquatic vegetation has really taken off on this pool. More and more of the back sloughs are being obliterated by sedimentation.

Tonight was my second night of cat fishing this season. For myself it was once again a bust, but once again Scott was the champ.

6-3-18 bass fishing

6-3-18 7:30am-2:00pm with Scott
Where/What: Mississippi River pool 8 bass fishing with Scott
Weather: Windy W 16 G30, overcast, 65º 29.92 rising
H20: 72º, 7.11 rising, dirty, 60 kcfs
Caught: (Approx.) 6 largemouth and 3 pike for each of us

Observations: The water is down considerably. Some areas have abundant weed growth and other areas are sparse with vegetation.

The fishing was pretty slow today. The only consistency we had were a few bass tucked along grass islands that had some decent current areas along them. We also has had a little action throwing frogs in the slop, but we never did hook any of them.
