Tonight I went directly to the deep water spots. The ice is still holding up rather well; I was able to park on the ice and I still felt safe while fishing. The fish were definitely in the deep water and when they showed up on the locator they would usually bite.
It was a bit of a trick using the locator in the deep water in addition to having my lure swept downstream with the current. I had to drill a series of two holes with one three feet downstream from the other. I would then place the locator in the downstream hole where it was able to pick up my bait directly below it.
