Fishing was really slow and I felt fortunate to have caught just two fish. One point of interest this morning was a very large and old cottonwood tree growing along the bank of the river. This tree was massive! Its’ trunk was probably ten feet across and its height would easily surpass the height of a small town church steeple. But the most amazing aspect of this tree was its roots. They looked like giant squid arms intertwined in and amongst the rocks. These roots have slowly become exposed over the years as the soil and rocks have eroded away. But this tree has stood its ground to Mother Nature and does not appear ready to succumb to the forces of wind and water anytime soon.
