The water was very peaceful today, it was a weekday so boat traffic was light. The water was very still with only an occasional ripple from a mis-guided breeze. The river is in a constant state of change. An area where a Black river tributary flows into the backwaters had three feet of water just three days ago. Today, it is a sand bar with just a mere covering of water. I met an elderly gentleman and his wife at the landing this evening. I could tell from his body language that he did not know this stretch of the river. He told me the other landing was full and he wanted to know where he could run his boat. Said he was looking for a few pan fish to catch. I told him to follow the opening and be mindful of underwater obstructions. He said thanks and he walked away. Well I got to feeling sorry for this fella and his wife, so I went over to him. I suggested he try at the end of the dike, where he certainly could catch a bluegill or two. He again thanked me and we parted with a smile.
