Karen wanted to do a little fishing, get some sun and do a little reading out in the boat. We put in at the landing by the house and headed up towards Trempealeau. We started out at a spot where Scott and myself had caught all the bluegills we had wanted just a few days earlier. Today the fish were not there, we caught a few small ones, but nothing like it was. We tried several other spots and finally found some bluegills, but the size was quite small. It really did not matter, we were out for fun not fillets. I did have to coach Karen a little bit on where to throw her bait and to set the hook, but in a short order she had it figured out.
Our final destination was small mouth bass on the wing dams. We found a nice school of very active fish. Karen had never caught a small mouth before, so I passed the rod to her after I had hooked up on a couple decent ones. She was quite surprised of the fight these fish had in them.

Observations:

The river is still dropping, and the clarity is great in most locations. At the landing I know I could see my yellow anchor in four feet of water.
