This evening I was targeting bass. I started out fishing for large mouths; I really wanted to see if any were still around on this pool. I fished slop for about an hour and caught one decent fish and had several other misses.
My next quarry was small mouths. I had been catching these fighting, dynamic fish for several weeks, and I just had to have more of them. Tonight they were not as wide spread. I did find a decent concentration of fish, but they were only at one spot. Tonight I changed my Senko to hook to one of my favorite wide gap types, and I had a much better hook – up ratio. I also allowed the fish to have the bait for a time, then when the rod loaded up I swept it instead of jerking it.
Observations:
The conditions on the river are almost perfect right now. The level is good, we have some flow and the water is clear.
