7-3-15 Friday

7-3-15 Fri, 9AM – 130PM, myself and norm, 75°, calm, clear
Mississippi R. Pool 9 (Genoa), 74°, calm, Minnesota side was dirty, Wisconsin side was clear
Caught: 1 – 20” pike, 1 – 13” small mouth and 1 – 13” large mouth
Norm was back home for the 4th of July, so I met up with him to do some fishing. We started out up by the float and were met with a ton of floating weeds. We then fished the rocks down by the power plant and caught nothing. Next stop was the spillway on the Minnesota side. The water was so muddy it smelled of mud. The area on the Minnesota side has some great backwater cover, but with the muddy water the fish were not active.
Our final destination was the Wisconsin side at the Roncoski Slough area. I managed to catch one each of a pike, small mouth and large mouth bass. The water clarity here was so much better than the Minnesota side. I believe the muddy water on the Minnesota side was a result of the Root River in Minnesota being flooded.
